Mattel Intellivision
The first significant rival to combat the Atari 2600, the Mattel Intellivision was the first system to aggressively advertise itself against its competition in home video game history using US personality George Plimpton.

A league above its other '2nd generation' consoles, the capabilities, visuals and sounds of the system stood out; however its controller is more suited to simple or educational games than action ones. Despite this, the console has its classics.

While not as big as the Atari 2600 scene, impressive Intellivision games have been produced for the homebrew market providing much more creative flexibility for those who know how to wield it.
My first pursuit in developing games for old systems, I grabbed a book on developing for the system. While not using Assembly I managed to get the beginning of a game started.
